That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 51 Review

Diablo Causes a Civil War

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 51 was a very boring episode. Nothing really happened. It was all about Rimuru talking to his various retainers about mundane things. I wouldn’t even say any of these boring conversations were necessary.

So, I’ve picked out three of the more interesting parts of the episode to discuss this week. First up, we have the civil war Diablo’s trying to cause within Falmuth. I thought he was trying to install a puppet government. But, no. He has bigger plans.

I guess the ultimate goal is still to install a puppet government. After all, Rimuru had mentioned wanting to crown Youm as the King of Falmuth. That may still eventually happen. But, before we get there, Diablo’s going to have the lords of Falmuth tear themselves apart in a civil war.

How is he planning to do this? As we know, the lords don’t want to pay reparations to Tempest. Because of this, they’ve pushed the majority of the payment onto the former king. And, it’s likely that they would want to punish the former king even further for putting them in this situation.

However, the former king is now a viscount in a region bordering where Youm’s party is from. So, the plan is for Youm’s group (backed by a portion of Tempest’s military) will intervene when something happens. This will then lead to the deaths or imprisonment of all the problem lords.

At least, that’s my understanding of the situation. It’s a way for Youm to secure the throne of Falmuth without a full-blown coup. He’ll be positioned as the savior of the country, taking it back from the lords who want to hoard wealth and power.

Milim Just Wants Tasty Food

As I said, not much happened in this episode. So, next, let’s talk about Milim’s desire for tasty food. She gets all her food from offerings from her followers. But, her followers don’t cook the food — they simply offer raw ingredients.

In the past, that was fine. Either Milim hadn’t had good food before. Or, more likely, she’d only had it during special occasions, such as during Walpurgis. And, because of that, she didn’t mind all that much about getting raw food offerings. But, that’s changed thanks to Rimuru.

Rimuru introduced her to a lot of new, tasty foods. He also showed her that there’s no reason why she can’t have good food for every meal. So, now, Milim’s tired of the same old raw food. She wants her followers to prepare meals for her that she actually wants to eat.

Milim calling me her bestie from the anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 51
Milim calling me her bestie

Of course, Milim could simply tell her followers that they need to cook the food they offer to her. However, as Rimuru pointed out, Milim’s not the kind of person to do that. She may be a powerful demon lord, but she doesn’t want to come off as ungrateful.

This is where her scheme comes in. The next time Milim visits Tempest, she’s going to bring a few of her retainers with her. And, while they’re there, Rimuru is going to have his people teach Milim’s people how to cook. Once they see how good the cooked food is, they’ll want to offer it to Milim themselves.

Will this plan work out? I have no idea and I don’t care. I can’t see this being an important part of the series. I’m sure it will come up again whenever Milim visits Tempest next. But, I doubt anything significant will come of it.

More Monsters in the Nation of Tempest

Toward the end of Episode 51, we find out that Rimuru wasn’t previously the ruler of the whole Jura Forest. Apparently, he was only the ruler of the part of the forest that sits on one side of the river. There’s even more forest to rule.

Now that he’s an official Demon Lord, though, the other Demon Lords gave him the entire forest as his domain. That means all the monsters that live in the other half of the forest now need Rimuru’s permission to live there.

Obviously, Rimuru would allow those monsters to keep living there as they always have. He’s not going to evict them from their lands. But, he can also now tax those monsters for living within his nation. And, he’ll be expected to use his power and influence to protect them.

The monsters that live within Tempest from the anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 51
The monsters that live within Tempest

Currently, there are Goblins, Orcs, Lizardmen, and Wolves that make up the core Tempest population. Humans, Dwarves, and some other races also live there. But, those four races make up the majority of Tempest’s citizens. Now, there are going to be even more monster races under Rimuru’s control. So, let’s meet them.

According to the preview of these races, there appear to be six or seven new additions. There are Minotaurs, Horsemen (not Centaurs), Rabbit people, Tengu, Bug people, and small children. Yeah, one of the “new races” we see pictured just looks like a human child, so I don’t know what they’re supposed to be.

I assume the majority of these races come from across the river. But, the Tengu are a little different. We know they live on top of some mountains Tempest is building a road passed. So, I guess Rimuru — via Benimaru — is going to bring the Tengu into Tempest, as well.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of Tensura Season 3 Episode 51? Did you find this episode as boring as I did? Do you think Diablo’s plan to start a civil war in Falmuth is going to be successful? And, what do you think the child represents in terms of new races coming to Tempest?

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 50 Review

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 50 Review

The Three Vampire Demon Lords

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 50 was a pretty confusing episode, for me. As someone who watches quite a bit of anime, I often forget what happened in previous seasons. In this episode, that may have been an issue.

There was a lot of information dumped on us in Episode 50. And, I’m not sure if this is the first time we’ve learned a significant amount of it. If it was the first time, this info dump wasn’t structured very well. If it wasn’t the first time, then I forgot a lot.

Now, at the very least, I remembered that Roy Valentine wasn’t a real Demon Lord. I knew that Luminous Valentine was the Demon Lord and that Roy was one of her underlings who pretends to be a Demon Lord in public. I don’t think I knew that Roy had a twin brother.

Roy and Louis Valentine

Is that new information? It’s not exactly a big deal if it is. But, it would mean that Luminous Valentine has multiple Demon Lord-level underlings. As was reiterated in this episode, Roy may not have been a real Demon Lord. However, he was strong enough to be considered one.

Since Roy and Louis are twins, I’m going to go out on a limb and assume Louis is just as strong. And then, there’s Hinata. She was strong enough to defeat both Roy and Louis at the same time. So, I guess that means she’s Demon Lord-level, as well.

Something I kind of remember from Season 2 is that Laplace killed Roy. I don’t think that was new. I also have a feeling that we already knew the other guy who was reincarnated from Rimuru’s old world was a villain. Though, I remember nothing about that.

Holy Empire Lubelius

Episode 50 also gave us some good information about the Holy Empire Lubelius itself. How is it that there’s a Holy Empire led by vampires? That doesn’t make much sense, right? Surely, the vampires are tricking the citizens and using them for some evil scheme. That’s what Hinata thought, too.

Well, it turns out that’s not actually the case. After meeting Luminous Valentine, Hinata was convinced otherwise. The Holy Empire Lubelius is actually one of the most well-off nations. And, it’s due to a symbiotic relationship between vampires and humans.

According to Hinata, the vampires only take a small amount of blood from the citizens. So, it’s not that bad. But, the citizens also get a lot of benefits in return. The happier the human, the tastier their blood. This gives the vampires an incentive to make the humans’ lives better.

Demon Lord Luminous Valentine healing Hinata

Now, would the humans go along with this relationship if they knew the truth? Would they willingly give up their blood to a vampire Demon Lord? I’m not so sure about that. And, that’s why Luminous relies on the facade of the church. Humans are willing to do anything for a god.

Hinata is an example of a human who’s accepted her vampire overlord. Sure, at first, she intended to slay the vampire that was pretending to be a god. But, after learning more about how Luminous’s leadership benefits humans, she supported it.

This is proof that the citizens of the Holy Empire could come to accept vampires. However, that still seems unlikely. That would go against the teachings of the Church that Luminous built up. Would her subjects throw their faith away so easily? And, it’s not as if she could have built her empire without the Church, in the first place.

Another Nation Recognizes Tempest

At the end of Episode 50, we saw the Kingdom of Falmuth and Tempest sign a peace treaty. This treaty put an end to the war between the two nations and included the terms of the king’s abdication.

But, that’s not all it did. The most important thing to come out of the treaty was Falmuth’s formal recognition of Tempest. I don’t remember every nation that’s recognized Tempest. But, there are definitely a few, including Blumund, a small nation on Tempest’s border.

I’m pretty sure that Carrion’s, Freya’s, and Milim’s countries also recognize Tempest. They’re all allies of Rimuru, so that would make sense. And, if I’m not mistaken, Dwargon also recognizes Tempest. It would be weird if they don’t considering Dwargo is Rimuru’s ally and Dwargon has a relationship with Tempest.

The King of Falmuth and Diablo signing a a treaty from the anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 50
The King of Falmuth and Diablo signing a a treaty

Every nation that recognizes Tempest makes Tempest stronger on the world stage. They help legitimize Tempest as a country. And, they show other countries that Tempest has allies. All of this together makes Tempest a more powerful, prosperous, and peaceful nation. And, that’s exactly what Rimuru wants. He doesn’t want to have to fight wars and struggle to survive.

Based on the stuff with Luminous Valentine in this episode, it looks like Lubelius might be next. Luminous got to see what Rimuru was all about during the Demon Lord meeting. And, what she might have seen in him is a path forward for her own country.

If Rimuru can build a nation where humans and monsters can live side-by-side, why can’t she? Again, she kind of shot herself in the foot by building a religion that demonizes monsters. But, perhaps Tempest can help change the Lubelius citizens’ minds about monsters. Then, they could accept Luminous as their leader.

Final Thoughts

What do you think about Tensura Season 3 Episode 50? Did you remember a lot of the information we got in this episode from the previous seasons? Do you think it’s too late for the Holy Empire Lubelius to change? And, which nation do you expect to recognize Tempest next?

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 49 Review

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 49 Review

Tensura Is Back (Again)

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is back with the first episode (Episode 49) of Season 3. Yes, I’m going to be continuing the episode count from the previous seasons rather than starting from 1. Why? That’s how Crunchyroll is doing it.

So, let’s get something out of the way right here at the start. I’ve been a Tensura hater for the past two seasons. Well, hater might be a strong word. I don’t hate it. But, I think I gave the first two seasons a 5 or 6 out of 10.

With that said, I’m going into this season fresh. I won’t judge it based on how I felt about the previous seasons. And, I’m actually kind of looking forward to this season. Compared to how bare the winter 2024 season was, Tensura Season 3 seems exciting.

Food from the dinner party after the conference of Demon Lords from the anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 49
Food from the dinner party after the conference of Demon Lords

Now, since this is the first episode of the season, I didn’t have the highest expectations. I figured the majority, if not all, of the episode was going to be setting up the season. That was true for the first half of the episode, but not the second.

Much to my surprise, we actually got into some real content in the second half. And, I think one reason for this is that there was a recap episode last week. Since this season “started” with a recap episode, the first real episode didn’t need to cover any of that.

This is the ideal way to use a recap episode. I hate when anime throw recap episodes in the middle of a season. Also, I’m pretty sure the first season ended with a recap episode, which makes no sense. Starting with a recap episode should be the norm. Good job, Tensura.

Diablo’s Special Assignment

Alright, I know I praised this season starting off with a recap episode. But, I have a confession to make. I didn’t watch the recap episode. I never watch recap episodes even though I rarely remember what happened. Still, I like that it’s there as an option.

Should I have watched the recap? Probably, because I didn’t remember where Season 2 left off. But, even without the recap, this episode did a pretty good job of reminding me. In the last season, Rimuru became an official Demon Lord after Falmuth attacked the Jura Forest.

How did Rimuru become a Demon Lord? He killed the entire Falmuth army. And how did he become an official Demon Lord? He defeated one of the existing Demon Lords (Clayman) in a duel. Destroying Falmuth’s army and becoming a Demon Lord isn’t enough for Rimuru, though. He still needs more revenge.

Diablo from the anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 49
Diablo

This is where Diablo comes in. While Rimuru was killing Clayman, he sent Diablo to deal with the Falmuth Kingdom. Does this mean he sent Diablo to destroy the kingdom? Not quite. Diablo probably could take over the entire kingdom by force. However, that’s not the route Rimuru wants to go down — if he can help it.

Rimuru would much rather not be viewed as a major threat by other nations. So, Diablo’s special assignment is to crush Falmuth from the inside. He needs Falmuth to collapse and come under the control of the Jura Forest in a way that doesn’t seem suspicious.

Though, if we’re being honest, anything bad that happens to Falmuth is going to look suspicious. A lot of nations are going to be wary if Falmuth suddenly falls after starting a war with the Jura Forest. And, many nations are already suspicious of the Jura Forest.

Subjugating the Kingdom of Falmuth

How does Diablo plan to take down Falmuth? Well, he actually has a pretty good strategy. He’s going to get the nobles of Falmuth to willingly back a plant from the Jura Forest as the next king. And, he’s going to use the power of propaganda to bolster Rimuru’s image.

So, let’s break down how this is going to work. Diablo gave the Falmuth Kingdom three options. They can become a vassal state of the Jura Forest. They can remove their current king and pay reparations. Or, the war can continue and they can all be slaughtered.

Obviously, Falmuth isn’t going to choose the third option. Diablo also assumes the nobles would never go for the first option, either. Doing so would mean giving up their status and power. So, that only leaves the second option. The only problem is that the reparation amount is way too expensive.

Razen from the anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 Episode 49
Razen

Rimuru guesses that Falmuth will try to negotiate the cost of reparations down. But, Diablo tells him that the Jura Forest isn’t going to allow this. They’re going to hold firm on the amount, which will force Falmuth’s hand. The nobles will oust the king and have him pay the reparations alone.

This is where the next phase of the plan comes in. Once the king’s out, Youm, with the backing of the Jura Forest, will ascend to the thrown. Effectively, this will make Falmuth a vassal state. But, it has the appearance of being the will of the nobles, not a hostile takeover.

Why would anyone in Falmuth trust Youm if he has the backing of Rimuru, though? Well, that’s where the propaganda plays a role. The official story isn’t that Rimuru committed genocide. It’s that Rimuru managed to stop Veldora from destroying all of Falmuth. He’s a hero.

Final Thoughts

What do you think of Tensura Season 3 Episode 49? Are you glad to see the series make its return? Did you watch the recap episode that aired last week? And, do you expect there to be any unforeseen issues that arise regarding Falmuth’s subjugation?

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2

Attack on Tempest

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 (Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken 2nd Season / 転生したらスライムだった件) was split into two cours. The first aired during the winter season and the second aired during the summer season. Since I didn’t do a review specifically for the first cour, I’m going to cover both today.

Most of the first cour is about an attack on the nation of Tempest. This was a pretty good arc because, seemingly for the first time, Rimuru isn’t able to save the day (immediately, that is). That’s a good thing because it adds some real conflict and drama.

Sure, there was conflict in the first season. But the conflict then was more like “how is Rimuru going to defeat this opponent?” We knew he was going to win, just not how exactly his victory was going to come about.

In this cour, Rimuru actually gets into a fight he’s unable to win and he’s also unable to save all of his friends. Specifically, he can’t defeat Hinata since he doesn’t want to kill her, and was unable to protect the city and lost Shion as a result.

Of course, Rimuru later saves everyone who died, including Shion, so it didn’t matter in the end. But at least for a few episodes, there was uncertainty surrounding whether his mass resurrection plan was going to succeed or not.

Even if the entire season was just this one cour, I’d have rated it higher than the first season. It was less of the city-builder stuff I know a lot of people like. But I think the focus on better plot and character development more than made up for that.

Birth of a Demon Lord

At the end of the first cour, the most important development of the entire series thus far occurred. Rimuru earned the title of Demon Lord by performing a one-slime genocide and killing thousands of soldiers from the nation that attacked Tempest.

Why does Rimuru becoming a Demon Lord matter? Well, for starters, he’s already friends/allies with a few other Demon Lords (Milim, Ramiris, and Carrion). So, now that he’s one as well, Rimuru can lead his nation on equal terms with his most powerful allies.

There’s also the fact that the second cour of this season starts an arc that’s all about the Demon Lords. In this sense, it’s Rimuru becoming a Demon Lord that launches the next arc of the series. But, there’s something that I think is even more important that came from Rimuru acquiring his new title.

Demon Lord Rimuru Tempest from the anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2
Demon Lord Rimuru Tempest

Rimuru becoming a Demon Lord itself is neat. He gets some power-ups, after all. But the biggest change between pre- and post-Demon Lord Rimuru is that we now know he’s willing and able to commit genocide against humans.

I think it was something like 10,000 – 20,000 people he killed, all of whom were human. That’s pretty major when you consider he used to be a human himself. So, this shows that he’s farther from his humanity than he’s ever been.

Additionally, some of those people he killed were Otherworlders just like him. And yet, he didn’t think twice about eliminating them in order to get his revenge.

From what I remember, Rimuru did mention something about feeling less connected to his humanity as he spent more time in his slime form. But, before he committed this genocide, he still had a rule in his nation about not killing humans specifically because he used to be one.

Walpurgis Arrives

When all the Demon Lords gather together, the event is referred to as Walpurgis. Clayman, along with Frey and Milim, was the one to call for the Walpurgis that takes place in the second cour of the series.

He had two primary reasons for calling for a Walpurgis. First, he wanted a chance to defend his decision to launch an attack into Carrion’s domain (which Rimuru’s army fought off). It’s forbidden for Demon Lords to attack each other like that, so Clayman needed an opportunity to explain himself to the others.

The second reason he had for calling this Walpurgis was to discuss what to do about Rimuru, the latest person to refer to themself as a Demon Lord. Obviously, Clayman’s opinion is that Rimuru shouldn’t be admitted into the Demon Lord council and should instead be eliminated.

Demon Lord Milim Nava from the anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2
Demon Lord Milim Nava

Rimuru eventually kills Clayman in front of the other Demon Lords, and then both Carrion and Frey relinquish their Demon Lord titles. Those developments are important, but what I found to be much more interesting is that we learned there are “Demon Lord” and there are awakened, or true, Demon Lords.

It’s just so strange to me that people who don’t actually hold the official title of Demon Lord are allowed to claim to be Demon Lords. That seems like it would water down the Demon Lord brand. Like, for instance, Clayman was weaker than Shion and still allowed to call himself a Demon Lord.

The fact that there are multiple tiers of Demon Lord does make me wonder how high the power scaling of the series goes. It’s been heavily implied that the true dragons like Veldora are stronger than the Demon Lords. But is there anyone else? Where does the Hero Hinata stand? I guess we’ll just have to wait for the next season and hope it answers those questions.

Conclusion

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 was a 6/10 overall. In fact, I rated both cours of the season at that score, which is one point higher than what I gave the first season. It really was an improvement on the first season, in my opinion.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Episode 48

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Episode 48

The Next Chapter

TenSura Episode 48 was the final episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Part 2. It was structured more or less as I expected. But it was also better than I was anticipating thanks to some of the additional details regarding the demon lords we got.

For that reason, today’s review is going to focus almost exclusively on the demon lords. And to start off, we need to take a look at the death of, arguably the weakest demon lord, Clayman at the hands of Rimuru.

Clayman’s death was important because it closed out the current chapter of the series (not to be confused with manga chapters). Clayman had been the primary antagonist for a while, and with him dead, we can now move on to the next antagonist.

Clayman's broken mask from the anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Part 2
Clayman’s broken mask

The way I see it, there are three primary candidates for the role of the next antagonist. And no, Guy Crimson isn’t one of them. I could definitely see Guy being an antagonist later on in the series, but not right now.

For now, the contenders are the demon lords Kazalim, Cromwell, and Valentine.

Kazalim is an obvious choice because he’s Clayman’s master and the only one not connected to the newly formed Octagram. However, the argument could be made that it’s too soon after Clayman’s death for Kazalim to show up.

Cromwell has been the stated enemy of Rimuru since way back in the first season due to his involvement with Shizue. And, Valentine appears to be connected to the nation that invaded Tempest and killed Rimuru’s citizens.

Honestly, Valentine would make the most sense if Octagram wasn’t just formed. That kind of makes things awkward.

Octagram: The Eight-Star Demon Lords

Before Rimuru was officially accepted as one of the demon lords, there were 10 of them and they were known as the 10 Great Demon Lords. Simple enough. And, since Rimuru killed Clayman, that means his addition to the group didn’t change that number.

But, both Frey and Carrion decide to give up their demon lord titles so that they can serve under Milim. They’re still going to control their own domains — or at least Carrion is — but they also want to formally acknowledge Milim as above them.

It should also be noted that this doesn’t mean Frey and Carrion are going to disappear. Every demon lord is allowed two companions, and Milim brought none. So at the next Walpurgis, I fully expect Frey and Carrion to be accompanying her. Also, let’s not forget that Carrion and Eurazania are allied with Rimuru and Tempest.

Vampire, the Queen of Nightmares: Luminus Valentine from the anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Part 2
Vampire, the Queen of Nightmares: Luminus Valentine

Anyway, with the departure of Frey and Carrion, we’re now down to eight official demon lords, known as Octagram. And of these eight demon lords, I think only about half are true (awakened) demon lords.

Guy states that Frey and Carrion hadn’t awakened, so we don’t have to question their status. And it was revealed that Roy Valentine isn’t a real demon lord either — he was just a stand-in for Luminus Valentine.

We know for a fact that both Milim and Rimiru are awakened demon lords. It’s also fairly obvious that Guy and Valentine are as well based on their power. As for the others, it’s less clear.

Ramiris might be a true demon lord since she’s one of the three oldest demon lords, alongside Guy and Milim. We don’t know enough about Deeno or Daggrull to say either way for them. And it seemed to be implied that Cromwell is not an awakened demon lord.

Yes, Cromwell killed Kazalim, who is almost certainly a true demon lord. But, he stated he killed Kazalim just to take his title, which implies he didn’t awaken himself.

God Luminus

I’m glad we got the scene toward the end of the episode that shows Hinata is working under the demon lord Valentine. I was going to bring it up anyway, but now I feel like I don’t have to waste as much time explaining the connection between the two since we were shown it.

But, basically, the “god” who Hinata and many other characters in this world believe in is none other than demon lord Valentine. It’s no coincidence that Hinata’s god is called Luminus and she was present within Luminus Valentine’s domain.

However, Valentine’s influence seems to extend far beyond Hinata. We know the Holy Kingdom Ruberium is a nation in this world, and I’m guessing that’s Valentine’s domain. On top of that, the Falmuth Kingdom also worshipped the god Luminus, if I remember correctly.

Hinata Sakaguchi from the anime series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Part 2
Hinata Sakaguchi

And, remember the skeleton who formerly worked under Clayman, but who has now defected to Tempest? That’s right, he was also a follower of the god Luminus. We can even assume Luminus is the god Shuna worships since we don’t have the names of any other gods within this world.

I’m going to guess that Luminus Valentine is a fairly powerful demon lord considering she’s revered as a god throughout multiple nations. She’s probably not as strong as Guy or Milim, though.

Also, I know he’s dead now, but you may be wondering about who Roy Valentine was. There’s really no question about his identity; he’s exactly who he was stated to be. Roy was the servant of Luminus Valentine. She turned him into a vampire like herself and gave him her surname, as is common.

Conclusion

What do you think about the final episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 Part 2? Who do you think the next antagonist is going to be? Which of the eight current demon lords do you think are awakened? And why do you think Hinata is following a demon lord? Let me know in the comments.
